We at HDGSSB believe that everyone is entitled to a safe and secured home. This is even more critical as more and more news of break-ins are reported in the papers nowadays.

So, what should we be looking at in terms of home security and surveillance:

a)

First and foremost is to prevent unauthorized entries.
This means having good locks and remembering to lock them.

b) Secondly is to have a home alarm system (in the event the unauthorized entry is breached).
Any unauthorized entry should trigger an alarm and sound the siren. Hopefully this would prevent the perpetrator from remaining on the premises.

c) Thirdly is to alert the owner should there be an unauthorized entry. Irrespective of whether there is any actual break-in or not, the owner should be informed IF the alarm has been triggered and the siren activated. The owner needs to know what is happening and to decide whether to continue with the siren and to call the friend/police to check, or to switch off the siren and to reactivate the alarm. In this respect, the owner must be able to "see" or "listen" in to what is happening in the house.

d) Last but not least, is to be able to record what is going on in the house should there be an actual break-in so as to assist the police in their investigation . Normally, this is not helpful unless the police is able to apprehend the perpetrator or if the perpetrator is someone that the owners know.

PREVENTION IS BETTER THAN CURE
